Men’s Tennis Downs Florida Southern to Advance at Regional Tournament

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle Men's Tennis (17-5) made program history on Tuesday, earning the program's first win in regional play. The Eagles, who are seeded second in the eight-team South Region, defeated seventh-seeded Florida Southern (10-9) 4-0 to advance to the second round on Tuesday.

"It's great to get our first NCAA II regional win," ERAU Head Coach Dave Paschal said.
"I thought the guys competed really well today. The final score was 4-0 but Florida Southern played a very competitive match and we're happy to come away with the win."

The first win of the day came at No. 2 doubles where ERAU's Fernando Alonso and Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo downed Valentin Hertweck and Chris Fok Kow 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, both sides held serve until the seventh game when Juan Ortiz Couder and Andres Donayre broke Erik Nordblom and Matteo Feggi to go up 4-3. The 23rd-ranked Eagle duo won two of the next three games to clinch the doubles point and give ERAU a 1-0 advantage going into singles.

Playing at the No. 2 spot in the singles lineup, Guedy made quick work of Chris Fok Kow dispatching the FSC sophomore 6-1, 6-0 to extend the Eagle lead to 2-0.

The next match off the court was at the fifth spot where Lukas Schneider downed Brandon Pham 6-2, 6-4 to make the team score 3-0.

The match at No. 4 singles saw Diaz Rodrigo battle to a 7-6 (7-1) win in the first set, but Elliott Altman was unable to keep pace with the ERAU freshman in the second set as Diaz Rodrigo won 6-1 to clinch the victory for the Blue and Gold.

The Eagles will face the winner of Monday's Saint Leo/Lynn match in second-round action at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
