DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team dropped its final game of the regular season on Sunday, falling to Saint Leo (7-10, 3-4) 14-12 in both teams' Sunshine State Conference finale.
Sunday's contest was the final game wearing the Blue and Gold for
Kendall Leonard,
Grace Ebbesmeyer,
Elizabeth Ninesling,
Tori Lammes,
Murphy McDonough,
Devyn Taht and
Emily Suh. All seven seniors started for the Eagles and four of the seven appeared in the scoring column.
Callison Foreman led the Eagles with a season-best six points on four goals and two assists. McDonough added a pair of goals, while Ninesling chipped in three assists and won nine draws
The teams matched each other goal-for-goal in three of the four quarters, but the difference came in the second frame where Saint Leo tallied four goals to just two by the Eagles.
Melissa Reeves got the scoring started for Saint Leo two minutes into the contest and
Aliza Garofalo put the Eagles on the board less than a minute later. The next two goals came from the Lions, but the Eagles outscored the Lions 3-1 in the last nine minutes to tie the score at 4-4 heading into the second.
McDonough and Foreman put the Eagles up 6-4 to start the second, but the Lions scored four unanswered to lead 8-6 at the half.
After an even third period that saw ERAU and SLU score two goals each, Saint Leo went on a 4-1 scoring run en route to their largest lead of the day, 13-9, with 3:55 left in the game. The Lions maintained the four-goal margin until
Zariah Durham's free position score with 1:41 remaining. Ninesling won the ensuing draw control and charged down the field before getting the ball to Foreman who finished the play to make it a two-goal game (14-12) with 1:32 left to play.
Following Foreman's goal, the Eagles won the draw again. ERAU was able to get two good looks at the goal in the final 1:10, but the Lions' Rachel Smythe came up with two of her 15 saves to secure the Saint Leo win.
The Eagles, who have enjoyed the most successful season in program history in 2022, end the regular season at 13-4 overall and 3-4 in the SSC.
