Women’s Basketball Lights Up Scoreboard in 101-52 Home Opening Win Over Jerazanas

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team remained undefeated on the season with a home-opening 101-52 win over Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras in the first ever meeting between the two programs. It was the third-straight home-opening win for the Eagles and the eighth in nine seasons.

Embry-Riddle (3-0) outshot Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (0-1) 52 percent to 32 percent. The Eagles completely dominated the glass 56-28 and scored at will in the paint as 60 of the team's points came from close range.

The first shot of the night was nothing but net as the Eagles' Madyson Jean-Louis knocked down a 3-pointer just 15 seconds in. From there, both squads entered a shooting slump as ERAU only converted on one of its next 12 shots and UPRRP missed seven of its first eight attempts.

With 3:13 left in the first quarter, the score was 5-3 in favor of the Blue and Gold when both sides got hot from the floor. The Eagles converted three shots in a row, including back-to-back layups from Laurie Satchell, and the Jerazanas knocked down five of their next six shots to even the score at 14-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Embry-Riddle settled in defensively in the second period, causing Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras to go into a scoring drought that lasted almost seven minutes. While the Jerazanas missed 10 consecutive shots, ERAU had no trouble knocking down its own attempts as the home team nailed six shots in a row to spark a 24-0 run to lead 36-14 with 4:16 left in the second. Jean-Louis caught fire as the junior was responsible for 11 points during that stretch with four layups and a 3-point shot. The 22-point advantage held up until the clock expired, sending ERAU into the locker room ahead 45-23.

The dominance continued in the third quarter. In that 10-minute span, the Eagles outscored UPRRP 33-10. Embry-Riddle's lead remained mostly stagnant for the first half of the period, but the Eagles once again caused trouble defensively beginning at the midway point. The Jerazanas hit just one of their final seven shots in the quarter while ERAU made 11 of its last 13. That led to a 23-3 spurt by the Eagles that saw six different members of the Blue and Gold register points. Embry-Riddle led 78-33 at the end of the third quarter.

Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras' shooting woes carried over into the fourth quarter. The Jerazanas failed on nine of their first 10 shots in the period. Four successful layups by Anye Staton in a three minute span fueled a 19-10 streak to balloon the Eagles' lead to a high of 54 points at 97-43. Eventually, Stephanie Ramsey sent ERAU over the century mark with a shot from behind the arc for the Eagles' final points of the game.

Fourteen different members of the Blue and Gold saw action on the court. Jean-Louis led the squad with a 20-point effort on 8-for-14 shooting, and Staton followed with a career high 11 points. The freshman also contributed on the boards, tying for the team high in rebounds at seven with Jenna Teterycz. Teterycz was also the Eagles' top playmaker with five assists. Multiple Eagles set new single-game career scoring marks including Satchell (9), Kyra Haan (9), Amou Ring (6), and Alyssa Brasko (6). Mary Lengemann grabbed a personal best six rebounds, and Chandler Brooks achieved new highs in points (3), rebounds (5), and assists (4).

Next up at home for the Eagles is a match against Ave Maria on Sunday at 3 p.m.
