Volleyball Sends Win Streak to Seven With Sweep of Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle volleyball team increased its win streak to seven on Friday night by beating Eckerd in straight sets. The win puts the Eagles ahead in the all-time series 9-8.

Embry-Riddle (19-6, 10-4 Sunshine State Conference) had the lead early on in set one, going up 8-4 and later 10-6. However, the Tritons (21-4, 11-4 SSC) fought back to take a 12-11 lead on a 6-1 run. Later on, the two squads traded four-point spurts with Eckerd still on top 18-17. A pair of Triton attacking errors put ERAU back on top 20-18, a lead the Eagles were able to hold on to win 25-21.

Four straight points by Eckerd erased an Eagle lead in the second set, but back-to-back kills by Cameron Gilleland pushed ERAU back ahead 11-10. The Tritons then took seven of the following 10 points to lead by three at 17-14. From there, Embry-Riddle took control and outscored Eckerd 11-4 the rest of the way, including a six-point run, to go up two sets to none with a 25-21 set win.

What began as a 4-4 tie slowly grew into a six-point Eagle advantage at 15-9. Eckerd rapidly chipped away to cut ERAU's lead to two with a 5-1 scoring stretch. The Blue and Gold answered with four consecutive points to increase the lead back to six at 21-15. Again, the Tritons strung together five consecutive points. Despite that, the Eagles took four of the final six points to win set three 25-22 and earn a third sweep in a row.

Cameron Gilleland led the attack with 12 kills and added 10 digs for a double-double while Grace Datil finished as the top setter with 17 assists. Jaden McBride finished with the most digs at 16, and Kailey Hrbek rejected four attacks.

The Eagles' final road match of the season comes on Saturday when Embry-Riddle plays at Saint Leo at 4 p.m.
