LAKELAND, Fla. – The 16th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team notched a shutout in its first win of 2023, topping NAIA No. 12 Southeastern 7-0 at the Fire's Beerman Family Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
The day's scoring began with the Eagles 24th-ranked pair of
Itxaso Blanco and
Carla Cabero del Hierro downing Micah Sypert and Beatrice Letizia 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Next of the court was the third flight tandem of
Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and
Kaylee Kirivong who downed Irene Lopez and Neleah Neiberline 6-3, and
Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Maja Issler downed Martina Picardi and Simone Simas by the same score to complete the doubles sweep.
Five of the six singles matches were straight-set victories for the Blue and Gold, starting with No. 20 Blanco's 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Picardi on court one. Cabero del Hierro following with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Letizia at No. 3 and Issler, playing in her first match for the Eagles, scored the clinching point with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Sypert at No. 2.
After Wira Hadipoernomo downed Simone Simas 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 and Ehrenfort topped Lopez 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5,
Alessia Tripaldelli battled Abigail Damon to a 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 win to secure the shutout.
The Eagles' next match will take them to Miami Shores for their first Sunshine State Conference match of the season. ERAU will face No. 1 Barry at noon on Saturday.
