MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The 16th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team was unable to get by Barry in both teams' Sunshine State Conference opener on Friday. The Eagles (1-1, 0-1) fell to the top-ranked Lady Bucs (1-0, 1-0) 4-0 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
The Bucs secured the doubles point courtesy of Xiyao Wang and Angela Leweurs' 6-1 win over Jessica Wira Hadipoernomo and
Kaylee Kirivong on court three and Selena Pichler and Deniz Khazan's 6-2 win over
Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Maja Issler on court two.
Top-ranked Khazan won Barry's first singles point with straight-set (6-1, 6-1) victory against
Itxaso Blanco at the top spot. No. 21 Daniela Farfan followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over
Carla Cabero del Hierro on court three and Dinara Allloiarova clinched the win by topping Issler 6-4, 6-3 on court two.
The Eagles' next match will be on Feb. 9 when they travel to No. 3 Saint Leo. Start time is slated for 3 p.m.
