INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team dropped its first consolation bracket match at the A/NCAA II Indoor National Championship falling to Hawaii Pacific 4-0, Saturday at the UIndy Tennis Center. The loss drops the Eagles to 0-5, while the Sharks moved to 4-2.
Hawaii Pacific gained an early advantage by winning two of three doubles matches. Jan and Ole Heine teamed up for a 6-1 win against
Alexis Guedy and
Michele Iftimie on court one, and Robin Sanz and Riku Ogaswara secured the doubles point with their 6-2 win over
Fernando Alonso and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo at No. 2.
The first singles point went to Benjamin Loccisano who bested Iftimie 7-5, 6-3 on court three. The next two matches off the court were three setters that went in favor of the Sharks. Playing at the sixth spot, Ole Heine held off
Luke Paschal 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 and Ogasawara secured a come-from-behind victory (6-0, 3-6, 4-6) against Diaz Rodrigo at No. 4 to score the clincher.
The Eagles close out tournament play in the seventh-place match on Sunday. They will face Flagler at 8 a.m.
