No. 14 Men’s Tennis Downs Eckerd 7-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 14th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched its first Sunshine State Conference win of the season with a 7-0 victory over Eckerd (0-3, 0-2), Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. Saturday's match was the Eagles' first home contest of the year and moved them to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the league.
 
The Eagles' first point of the day came from the third flight duo of Fernando Alonso and Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo who topped Jon William Karlstad and Christian Kearns 6-2. Eckerd got a point back when Batu Ataseven and Esteve Agusti topped Alexis Guedy and Luke Paschal 6-1 at No. 1. Playing on court two, Lukas Schneider and Michele Iftimie rallied from a 3-2 deficit to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Eric Asakura and Sam Walker.
 
Playing at No. 4 singles, Diaz Rodrigo was efficient in his first straight set win of the season as he topped Asakura 6-1, 6-1. The Eagles' next point came from Alonso who bested Kearns 6-0, 6-4 at the third spot to put the Eagles up 3-0.
The two longest matches of the day were played at the top two spots in the lineup. The first to finish was on court two where Iftimie battled Ataseven to a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 victory to assure the Eagles of the win. Guedy's match against Agusti on court one only went to two sets but was the fourth match to finish with Guedy prevailing 6-3, 6-4.
 
Nicklas Gesslein found success in his first dual match of the season for the Eagles, defeating Sam Walker 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6. Yoav Nir held off Jon William Karlstad 7-6 (2), 6-2 to secure the shutout for Embry-Riddle.
 
The Eagles' next match will be on Wednesday when they host Salem University at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
