DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 14 Embry-Riddle Men's Tennis notched its second straight victory with a 6-1 win over Salem (W.V.) (3-4) on Wednesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
The Eagles began the day with a sweep in doubles.
Lukas Schneider and
Michele Iftimie registered the first win with a 6-1 defeat of Pablo Guillen and Daniel Papa at No. 2 and
Fernando Alonso and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Cristobal Munoz and Eduardo Cama at No. 3. At No. 1,
Alexis Guedy and
Luke Paschal went down a break but rallied and were serving for the match at 5-4 when they were broken by Max Mueller and Alessandro Fedelli again. With the match knotted a 6-6, Guedy and Paschal won the tiebreaker 7-4 and the Eagles took a one-point lead into singles.
Playing at No. 1 singles for the first time in his ERAU career, Iftimie was off the court quickly after blanking Mueller 6-0, 6-0. Alonso extended the Eagle lead to 3-0 with his 6-1, 6-2 win over Paipa at No. 3, and Diaz Rodrigo scored the clincher with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Guillen at No. 2.
The Eagles' last two points came from courts five and six where
Yoav Nir downed Pablo Noya 6-4, 6-2 and
Nicklas Gesslein topped Robert Ducoing 6-1, 6-3 to close out the match and help the Eagles to 2-7 on the year.
The Eagles will face NAIA No. 1 Kesier at home at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
