DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 18th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team was successful in its first home match of the season, earning a 7-0 victory against Eckerd in Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday. The Eagles improved to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the SSC with the win, while the Tritons are 1-3 and 0-3 in the SSC.
Teaming up for the first time this season,
Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Carla Cabero del Hierro earned the first win of the day with a 6-2 defeat of Alexis Kwasnik and Julia Triska at No. 2 doubles. In another first-time pairing,
Itxaso Blanco and
Maja Issler secured the doubles point with their 6-3 win over Kylie Misdrop and Maya Soligo at No. 1, and
Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and
Kaylee Kirivong completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win over Raia Jagger and Ericka Chavarria at No. 3.
The Eagles were dominant in singles play as they surrendered just four games in the first three matches to reach completion. First off the court was Wira Hadipoernomo who downed Kwasnik 6-1, 6-1. Cabero de Hierro followed with her 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Triska at No. 3, and Ehrenfort scored the clinching point with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Jagger at No. 5.
No. 22 Blanco also secured an easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Chavarria at the top spot. Next to her on court two, Issler won the first set 6-1 and battled Misdorp to a 7-6 (5) win in the second. The final match off the court was at the sixth position where
Alessia Tripaldelli blanked Lili Reichert 6-0, 6-0.
The Eagles are back in action at 11 a.m. on Sunday, taking on No. 16 Tampa at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
