ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida - The Embry-Riddle women's golf team shattered their previous low round at the annual World Golf Invitational on Monday, ending the day in 11th place overall after shooting 303-311=614 over 36 holes. The Eagles were paced by freshman Loa Johannsson who sits in a tie for 10th individually with a 145 (71-74) at the Slammer and Squire.

The par-72, 6,049 yard course provided the challenge for the 15 teams and 81 golfers on Monday, but Johannsson impressed for the Eagles, recording six birdies on the day. The freshman's opening round 71 was the second-lowest round of the 2022-23 season for an Eagle, and marked the best round of her young collegiate career.

Johannsson (145) sits six shots back of the individual leader (Olivia Gronborg from Nova Southeastern).

Selina Budde went for an opening day score of 78-77=155 for the Blue and Gold, followed by Mille Lawson's 76-80=156, and Reni Jancsik's 78-80-158. Paul Valdivia finished Monday's 36 holes with a 164 (83-81).

"I really enjoyed watching our team play today," Head Coach Maria Lopez said. "We are still getting some winter rust knocked off and getting settled into our rhythm, but it was enjoyable to watch them compete and hang tough. This is the first time we've played this event as a 36-hole/18-hole format, and I think we're still finding our legs, but I'm hopeful for the momentum that we're building. We're all looking to close things out tomorrow with some Eagle Excellence."

Embry-Riddle (614) sits five shots in front of NCAA II No. 16 Florida Southern (619), and nine shots better than No. 21 Saint Leo (623). No. 7 Nova Southeastern (571) leads the field, followed by No. 10 Rollins (576), No. 9 Tampa (584), No. 30 Barry (594), and No. 31 Lander (598) and No. 14 Limestone (598).

The tournament concludes tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 7 with the third and final 18 holes.
The 2022-23 Embry-Riddle Women's Golf season is presented by Tijuana Flats.
