DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team notched a big win on Tuesday, upending 26th-ranked Southern New Hampshire 7-0 at the Crotty Tennis Complex. Ranked 43rd in the latest Division II ITA College Tennis Rankings, the Eagles swept through doubles and singles to improve to 6-5 overall and hand the Penmen (14-1) their first loss of the year.
Itxaso Blanco and
Maja Issler wasted little time in picking up the Eagles' first win of the day as the duo dispatched 44th-ranked Magdalena Hubickova and Alexxa Etienne 6-0.
Kaylee Kirivong and
Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo teamed up for a 6-2 defeat of Isabella Andrade and Guntra Upeniece and
Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Carla Cabero del Hierro rallied to best Alina Kupfer and Verena Weindl 7-6 (2) to complete the doubles sweep.
Blanco was equally efficient in singles as the Eagles' 24th-ranked player blanked No. 22 Hubickova 6-0, 6-0 on court one. Cabero del Hierro followed with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Etienne at the third spot and Ehrenfort clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Andrade at No. 4.
At No. 2, Issler pulled out a three-set (6-3, 3-6, 7-5) victory against Kupfer and
Alessia Tripaldelli dropped just two games on the way to topping Upeniece 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5. The final match off the court saw Wira Hadipoernomo battle back from a first-set loss to best Weindl 6-7 (5), 6-1, 11-9 and secure the shutout.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday when they welcome former ERAU Assistant Coach Chris Wollett and his Bethune Cookman Wildcats to the Crotty Tennis Complex for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
