13th-Ranked Tars Hold Off Men's Lacrosse, 15-5

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse eam hung with NCAA II No. 13 Rollins until the fourth quarter on Saturday, dropping a Sunshine State Conference decision, 15-5. The Eagles (4-5, 0-2 SSC) played within three or four goals of the Tars (7-1, 1-0 SSC) for the first 45 minutes, but a fourth quarter dominated by the visitors resulted in the final result.

Isaiah Hines and Coleman Jacobs combined for all five of the Blue and Gold's scores, with Hines collecting his sixth hat trick of the 2023 campaign. Carter Groezinger was excellent in goal for the Eagles, registering 16 saves, but the Rollins' attack, particularly in the second half, proved to be too much for the Eagles.

Rollins jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but Jacobs was able to finally get ERAU on the board with 3:37 left in the period. Embry-Riddle had several chances in the final few minutes of the first, but couldn't cash in, while Groezinger made a terrific save as time was expiring to send the game to the second 4-1 in favor of the visitors.

The Tars scored the first goal in the second, but Jacobs had the answer a few minutes later, getting a great pass from Joe Anderson and making it 5-2 with 10 minutes to play in the half.

Following a Tars goal, Hines got on the board with his first score with just under two to play in the period, and the Eagles would go into the break trailing just 6-3.

The third quarter started off slowly as the defenses held firm, but once again it was the visitors that struck first in the period, extending their lead to 7-3 at the 9:39 mark.

Lars Hoeg found Hines for his second goal of the day with around seven to play, but the Tars scored back-to-back goals to increase their lead to 9-4.

Embry-Riddle's final goal of the day was from Hines with 35 seconds remaining, a fantastic individual effort that saw him fake a shot high before going low and beating the Rollins keeper, making it 9-5 heading to the fourth.

The first four minutes of the fourth quarter was all Rollins as they won five straight face-offs and scored four goals before Embry-Riddle even had possession, putting the game out of reach. The Tars tacked on two more tallies before time expired en route to the 15-5 final.

The Eagles will take on their fourth consecutive opponent ranked or receiving votes in the NCAA II national polls when ERAU hosts No. 16 Florida Southern on Saturday, April 1 at 4 p.m. at the ERAU Lacrosse Field.
