DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 33rd-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched its fourth shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over St. Olaf, Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles swept doubles and won all six singles matches in straight sets to improve to 10-7 on the year, while the Lions fall to 4-8.
The first win of the day came in the form of a
Fernando Alonso and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo win against Ben Anderson and Jakub Belik at No. 3 doubles.
Michele Iftimie and
Lukas Schneider followed with a 6-2 defeat of Jerusalem Thao and Henry Kruse at No. 2 and
Alexis Guedy and
Luke Paschal teamed up for a 6-4 victory over Henry Smith and Bogdan Vizoli at No. 1 to complete the sweep.
A 6-1, 6-1 Diaz Rodrigo win over Kruse at No. 3 singles got the Eagles their first singles point of the day. Iftimie dropped just one game in his 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Vizoli at No. 1, and Alonso scored the clincher by downing Smith by the same score at No. 2.
Following Paschal's 6-2, 6-1 fourth flight win over Belik,
Nicklas Gesslein topped David Azcona 6-2, 6-0 and
Pol Fontdegloria downed Anderson 6-2, 6-2 to close out the scoring.
The Eagles' next match will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to Winter Park to take on Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins.
