WINTER PARK, Fla. – A sweep in doubles play lifted the 18-ranked Rollins men's tennis team to a 4-3 win against No. 25 Embry-Riddle, Wednesday at Copeland Stadium. The Eagles move to 10-8 on the year and 1-3 Sunshine State Conference play with the loss, while the Tars improved their record to 13-2 and 4-0 in league play.
After taking all three doubles matches to win the doubles point, the Tars increased their advantage to 2-0 when Moritz Stenzer pulled out a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win against
Yoav Nir at No. 6. That match set the tone for the rest of the afternoon as four of the five remaining matches went to three sets.
Michele Iftimie notched the first point for ERAU, besting Luke Quaynor 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 at the second spot and
Fernando Alonso pulled the Eagles level with the Tars with his 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Guillermo Castaneda on court three.
Playing at No. 5,
Lukas Schneider gave the Eagles their first lead of the day with his 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 defeat of Charlie Putrino. Richard Stoiberer pulled out a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win over
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo at No. 4 to put the Tars back on level terms and Efe Comu topped No. 26
Alexis Guedy 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 to score the clinching point.
The Eagles' next match will be against another conference foe, No. 15 Lynn, at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
