DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team suffered its second tough loss in as many matches on Friday. In a contest that lasted four hours, the 25th-ranked Eagles (10-9, 1-4) fell to No. 15 Lynn (11-4, 3-1) 4-3 in Sunshine State Conference play at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
The first doubles point of the day went to the ERAU duo of
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo and
Fernando Alonso who downed Ray Chavez and Yuron Guberman 6-3. The remaining doubles contests both went to Lynn, however, as the Fighting Knights registered wins at the top two spots to clinch the doubles point.
Michele Iftimie notched the first singles point of the day with his 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Gabrielle Felline at the second position and Diaz Rodrigo gave the Blue and Gold a 2-1 lead by pulling out a three-set (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) win over Ray Chavez at No. 2.
The Fighting Knights tied the match with Haktan Garayev's 6-1, 6-2 win against
Nicklas Gesslein and moved back in front of the Eagles when Yaron Guberman held off Alonso 6-1, 4-6, 4-6 at No. 3.
The match at the top spot was also a three-set battle, and in the end, it was Diego Gonzalez who managed to outlast
Alexis Guedy 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) to score the clincher.
The final match off the court saw
Lukas Schneider rally for a 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 win over Gianmarco Amatiste for the Eagles' third and final point.
The Eagles' next match will be at 2 p.m. on April 8 when they host Palm Beach Atlantic.
