DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 31 Embry-Riddle was unable to get by the fourth-ranked women's tennis team from Lynn, falling to the Fighting Knights 5-2, Friday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. Lynn improved to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in Sunshine State Conference play, while the Eagles move to 9-6 overall and 2-5 in the league.
The first point of the afternoon went to Lynn who won all three doubles contests to secure the doubles point.
Lynn went up 2-0 with a win at No. 2 singles as Greta Schieroni topped
Maja Issler 6-1, 6-1. At the top spot, 20th-ranked
Itxaso Blanco handled Salma Djoubri in straight sets, defeating the nation's fourth-ranked player 6-1, 6-3 and handing Djoubri her first conference loss of the year.
Following
Sabrina Ehrenfort's 5-7, 4-6 loss to Zofia Podbiol, Cabero del Hierro registered an upset of her own, upending No. 21 Kristen Younes 7-5, 6-3.
The Fighting Knights earned victories at the fourth and sixth spots to wrap up the team victory.
The Eagles' next match will be at 2 p.m. on April 8 when they host Palm Beach Atlantic.
