DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team notched its 10
th win of the season on Saturday, courtesy of a 7-0 defeat of Palm Beach Atlantic in Sunshine State Conference play at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The 39
th-ranked Eagles are now 10-6 overall and 3-5 in the league. PBA is now 1-15 overall and 1-6 in the SSC.
The Eagles' first doubles win came from the 29
th-ranked tandem of
Itxaso Blanco and
Maja Issler who downed Svea Crohn and Jasmine Willimas 6-1. Playing at the third spot,
Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and
Kaylee Kirivong bested Elvira Edstrom and Frida Alsterhem 6-3 to assure the Eagles of the doubles point. At No. 2 doubles,
Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Carla Cabero del Hierro fell behind early, 3-0. But the ERAU duo rallied, winning the next six games to complete the doubles sweep.
Blanco, who made program history as the first Embry-Riddle woman to achieve a top-10 singles ranking in NCAA II, made quick work of Crohn in singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Alessia Tripaldelli was next off the court following her 6-2, 6-1 win over Anabelle Robichaud at No. 6 and Cabero del Hierro scored the clincher with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Edstrom at No. 3.
After Issler outlastedAlina Hoermann 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 the two remaining matches resulted in straight-set victories for the Blue and Gold as Wira Hadipoernomo downed Williams 6-2, 6-0 and Ehrenfort topped Alsterhem 6-3, 6-2.
The Eagles close out regular season play at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Florida Southern at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
