DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Two wins in doubles and four in singles lifted the 18
th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team to a 5-2 win over Grand Valley State, Monday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The win evened the Eagles overall record at 4-4, while the Lakers fall to 6-3 with the loss.
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead courtesy of wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts. The ERAU duo of
Itxaso Blanco and
Maja Issler registered an upset on court one when they toppled 12
th-ranked Taylor Barrett and Vasiliera Griva 6-3.
Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and
Kaylee Kirivong secured the doubles point with their 6-2 defeat of Anna Soteras and Ann Romero Gonzalez.
Issler's top-flight win (6-1, 6-2) over Griva extended the Eagle advantage to 2-0 and Wira Hadipoernomo made it 3-0 with her 6-4, 6-1 win over Rachel Sam at the third spot.
The clinching point came on court five where
Alessia Tripaldelli earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Estefania Hernandez. The Eagles' final point of the match came when
Carla Cabero del Hierro downed Barrett 6-4, 6-2 at the second position.
The Eagles' next contest will be a neutral site match against Augustana at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs at 12 p.m. on Thursday.
