ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team (4-5) suffered a tough 4-3 loss against No. 16 Augustana (9-2) in a neutral site match at Sanlando Park on Thursday.
The Vikings registered the first win of the day when Laura Arce Vieyra and Emily Granson topped
Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and Kayle Kirivong 6-2 on court three.
Itxaso Blanco and
Maja Issler teamed up to tie the team score at 1-1 with a 6-3 win over Florentia Hadjigeorg and Serem Ocal at No. 1, but Aleksandra Kristanova and Gabriela Jancikova won the doubles point for the Vikings by holding off
Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Carla Cabero del Hierro 6-4.
Following Hadjigeorg's 7-5, 6-2 win over Blanco at No. 1, Issler recorded the Eagles' first point wiht a 6-3, 7-5 win over Ocal at No. 2 and
Alessia Tripaldelli followed with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Margarita Chouliara on court six to pull the Eagles level at 2-2.
Wira Hadipoernomo gave the Eagles their only lead of the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Arce Vieyra at No. 4, but the Vikings claimed points at the third and fifth positions to take the win.
The Eagles are back at the Crotty Tennis Complex on Saturday to host Northwood (Mich.) at 11 a.m.
