DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team registered its second shutout of the season on Tuesday with a 7-0 win over West Liberty at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles surrendered just five games in all three doubles matches combined to improve to 4-6 on the year. The Hilltoppers fall to 4-2 with the loss.
The Eagles began the day with a sweep of all three doubles matches.
Michele Iftimie and
Lukas Schneider got the first win with a 6-1 victory over Joao Benvenutti and Navio Dux at No. 2.
Alexis Guedy and
Luke Paschal teamed up for a 6-3 win over Derek Roehner and Roberto Esquivel at No. 1 and
Fernando Alonso and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo completed the sweep with a 6-2 defeat of Moritz Erpel and Gianluca Gerndt at No. 3.
Guedy quickly made it 2-0 for the Eagles with his 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Erpel at the top spot. After Iftimie's 6-2, 6-2 win over Dux on court two,
Yoav Nir recorded the clinching point with his 6-2, 6-3 decision against Roehner at No. 5.
Alonso's 6-2, 6-0 win over Gerndt at No. 3 accounted for the Eagles' final straight set win of the afternoon. Paschal (6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-6) and
Nicklas Gesslein (6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-8) both had to come from behind to pull out wins in 10-point tiebreakers to secure the shutout for Embry-Riddle.
The Eagles have a short break before taking the court again on Thursday. Embry-Riddle will take on Augustana in a neutral site match at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs at noon.
