No. 39 Women’s Tennis Celebrates Senior Day With Upset of No. 13 Florida Southern

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – According to the ITA Women's Tennis Rankings released on Wednesday morning, the Embry-Riddle (11-6) women's tennis team was rated No. 39 in NCAA II. In their Wednesday afternoon match, the Eagles showed that they are worthy of a higher spot in the national poll as they upended 13th-ranked Florida Southern (13-5) 4-3 in Sunshine State Conference play at the Crotty Tennis Complex. Both teams have identical 4-5 conference records and will await official word on where they will be seeded in next week's SSC tournament.

Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and Kaylee Kirivong opened the scoring for the Blue and Gold with a 6-3 defeat of Kelly Klaren and Kennedi Brown at No. 3 doubles. The 25th-ranked FSC pair of Laia Pasini and Laura Vetter evened the score at No. 1 by holding off No. 32 Itxaso Blanco and Maja Issler 6-4.

The match at No. 2 doubles was on serve until the ERAU tandem of Sabrina Ehrenfort and Carla Cabero del Hierro held and then broke Vivien Charvatova and Neli Sunjic to go up 5-4. With Ehrenfort behind the service line, the Eagles staved off four golden points to take the match 6-4 and clinch the doubles point.

The first four singles matches off the court all finished within five minutes of each other. The first singles point went to FSC's Olivia Bryant who topped Issler 6-2, 6-0 to draw the Lady Mocs level with the Eagles. Playing at the sixth spot, Alessia Tripaldelli put the Eagles back in front with her 6-3, 6-1 win against Maxima Ellenberg at No. 6.

Playing in her last singles match at the Crotty Tennis Complex, Ehrenfort celebrated her senior day with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Charvatova on court five. The clinching point came from Blanco as the Eagles' 12th-ranked player downed Pasini 6-2, 6-3 to cap the Eagles' scoring.

The 2023 SSC Tournament will be held April 20-22 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
