SAINT LEO, Florida - The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team suffered its sixth straight setback on Saturday, falling in a tough Sunshine State Conference road game to (RV) Saint Leo, 17-10. The Eagles (4-8, 0-5 SSC) hung tough with the Lions (8-4, 3-1 SSC) for the vast majority of the game until the hosts pulled away over the final 10 minutes of play.

Carter Groezinger made 14 saves in net, while Isaiah Hines crept closer to ERAU's single-season goals record with three scores on the day, matched by Coleman Jacobs' three tallies. However, the Eagles were 0-for-3 in extra-man opportunities, all coming in the second period.

The Lions scored the first two goals of the game, both by Guy Bistrow, taking a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes before Jacobs caused a turnover, picked up the ground ball and scored in the span of 14 seconds to cut the ERAU deficit in half.

After SLU scored the next three goals, Trent McCauley registered his third foal of the year with three minutes to play in the first, but a late Lion score gave them a 6-2 cushion after the first 15 minutes.

Saint Leo dominated the first eight minutes of the second quarter, going up 9-2, but the final half of the period belonged to the visitors as Hines scored two goals in succession before Jacobs got his second of the day, cutting the Lion lead to 9-5. Once again, the home team got the final goal of a quarter as Bistrow extended his team's lead to 10-5 at the halftime break.

The second half began with the visitors continuing their run with Christian Hofer and Joe Anderson each picking up goals in the first three minutes, trimming the deficit to 10-7, and with several good chances in the ensuing minutes, ERAU pushed to get even closer, but two nice saves from SLU keeper Chase Strait kept the difference at three goals.

Saint Leo's next two goals came at the 7:44 and 4:11 marks of the third quarter before Hines and Jacobs each tallied a goal to again get within three with just under a minute to play in the period. Bistrow, who finished with a game-high four goals, scored with 20 seconds to go, giving SLU a 13-9 advantage heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter mostly belonged to the Lions as Andrew Ewalt's goal, coming immediately after he won a face-off, standing as the lone ERAU score of the final 15 minutes, and the Lions came away with the 17-10 win.

The Blue and Gold return to Daytona Beach for its final two games of the 2023 regular season, beginning with Wednesday's clash with Florida Tech at 4 p.m.
