ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - It was an impressive start to the season for the Embry-Riddle men's golf team as the Eagles (277-292=569) sit seven strokes under par in fourth at the end of the first day of the Jay Jennison Cup hosted by Flagler College. The field features 13 teams competing at the par-72, 6,939-yard Slammer & Squire Golf Course.

It was the freshmen who led the squad to a program-record 277 in round one. Edoardo Scialanga and Brandon Godfrey, along with Tiago Barni, all sat inside the top 10 at the end of the first round.

However, it was Aleksandar Abrashev who paced the Blue and Gold through the first day. The sophomore also shot below par to start with a 71. He carried that momentum into the second round by birding his first two holes en route to a 69. His 140 shot total has him sitting in a tie for fifth on the leaderboard.

Barni was nearly flawless to start his 2023-24 campaign. The Windermere, Florida native accumulated three birdies and only one bogey throughout the first round (70). A 72 in round two placed him just outside the top 10 in a tie for 11th with 142 strokes.

Godfrey eagled the par-5 hole No. 4 to help him register a 69 in his first round as an Eagle. He later added an eagle on the eleventh hole, also a par-5, in round two and recorded 76 strokes to bring his total to 145.

Scialanga recorded eight birdies in his first 18 holes for a 67, which tied for the sixth-lowest round in program history and put the Rome, Italy native into a tie for second. Round two proved to be more challenging for the newcomer as he scored an 81 for a 148 stroke total.

Georgios Pachiadakis (75-75=150) also competed for ERAU.

Palm Beach Atlantic (275-282=557) leads Lenoir-Rhyne (285-276=561) by just four strokes with Lynn (286-282=568) in third, just one shot ahead of the Eagles.

Flagler's Nic Eberhard (70-65=135) is the top individual.

The third and final round gets underway at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
