DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team faced Eckerd College on Sunday afternoon, following a delay due to hurricane weather. This match marked the Eagles' fifth conference game of the season, and they aimed to carry on their recent success after a win against Barry. The Eagles played a dominant first half with a 3-0 win.
The Eagles got off to a sensational start, with freshman
Fabian Hilpert scoring a worldie of a goal just 30 seconds into the match, sending the ball soaring into the top left corner of the net—leaving Tritons goalie Aidan Leak with no chance.
This early goal energized the Eagles, who maintained pressure on the Tritons, dominating possession for the next nine minutes. In the 10th minute,
Sandro Henning delivered a beautiful cross into the box, which was expertly finished by
Gabriel Mentrup—marking his second collegiate goal for the Eagles. The Eagles continued to shine, with
Tom Shepherd adding a third goal at 18:29, also assisted by Henning, who had a standout day with two assists.
Eckerd had a brief opportunity when goalie
Tommy Fellowes came off his line, leaving the net open. However, their shot sailed wide, and the first half concluded with ERAU leading 3-0.
Entering the second half, the Eagles focused on game management, aiming to secure their first clean sheet of the season. The tempo of the game shifted, with both teams trading possession but Tritons coming out on top. The Tritons registered 12 shots in the second half compared to the Eagles' five. Despite their efforts, Eckerd could not convert any of their four shots on goal, while all three of Embry-Riddle's shots found the back of the net.
Defensively, the Eagles held strong, with Andy Patterson playing a pivotal role as he went the distance, contributing to the team's solid performance.
The Eagles look to keep this going back on the road on Wednesday where they take on Palm Beach Atlantic University at 7 p.m.
