Volleyball Struggles in Loss to No. 18 Fighting Knights

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Following a nearly two-week long hiatus partially due to Hurricane Milton, the Embry-Riddle volleyball team returned to the court on Friday, suffering a 3-0 loss to No. 18 Lynn. Embry-Riddle had its hands full both offensively and defensively as Lynn ranked second in the conference in hit percentage (.301) and opponent hit percentage (.106). The Eagles did well to hold the Fighting Knights to an attack of .185, which tied Lynn's season low. Part of that was thanks to ERAU's 64 digs, which was the most in a three-set match this season. However, Embry-Riddle also struggled offensively, registering a season-low 33 kills and hitting .111.

The Eagles immediately found themselves in a hole by dropping the first five points of the opening set. Embry-Riddle did manage to cut the deficit to one on multiple occasions, but a 6-1 spurt by the Fighting Knights put the set out of reach at 21-15 which eventually became a 25-19 set win for the home team.

Though the Blue and Gold grabbed an early 4-3 lead, Lynn captured five unanswered points to push ERAU behind 8-4. From there, the Fighting Knights kept their distance by preventing the Eagles from getting within a point. Set two ended the exact same way as set one, a 25-19 victory by Lynn.

After both teams hit sub .200 in each of the first two sets, the offenses came alive in set three with ERAU outhitting Lynn .242 to .206. A couple of aces had Lynn ahead 5-2 in the third. Later on, back-to-back aces from Isabella Rujano helped ignite a 5-0 Eagle run that gave the visitors a 16-15 lead. Both squads went back and forth, tying the set at 22-22. However, two serving errors by ERAU assisted the Fighting Knights on a 3-1 run to end the set at 25-23 and conclude the match.

Embry-Riddle's final point of the match got Rujano her 10th kill for another double double on the season. The junior also led the team in digs (17) and aces (2). Haley Manjack picked up a season-high nine kills with two blocks. Jaden McBride added 13 digs and six kills. Gabriela Pagan contributed 12 digs. Ashlyn Koerner led in assists with 20 while Lexie Hage tallied 12. Ruby Owen set a personal best in digs with eight.

Embry-Riddle will remain in South Florida to play Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at 4 p.m.
