BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team picked up its first Sunshine State Conference point of the season courtesy of a 0-0 tie against Lynn on Wednesday. Wednesday's result moves the Eagles' record to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in league play, while Lynn is 2-3-2 and 0-1-2 in the SSC.
The visiting Eagles outshot the home team 15-8, but couldn't find the finishing touch.
The Eagles employed a high press to start the game which in essence shrunk the field and prevented Lynn from advancing out of their defensive half. The Blue and Gold recorded the first four shots of the game including attempts by
Berglind Thrastardottir and
Lauryn Mateo that drew saves from Lynn goalkeeper Brooke Auth. Despite 5-2 advantage in attacking opportunities for the Eagles, the game was scoreless at the half.
The second half saw an uptick in scoring chances with the Eagles registering 10 shots and the Fighting Knights putting up six shots of their own.
Perhaps the best chance of the second half for the Eagles came in the 56th minute. The play started from midfield and the ball eventually found its way to
Agnes Vigholm on the left side. Vigholm's cross across the face of goal fell to an unmarked
Inga Agustsdottir, but Auth came up with a quick reaction save to parry Agustsdottir's attempt from point blank range over the cross bar.
Auth finished with five saves, while her counterpart,
Oona Jokinen notched two saves in her second shutout of the season.
The Eagles return to the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium on Saturday for a 7 p.m. SSC match against Barry.
