Volleyball Downs Lions 3-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle volleyball team increased its win streak to three with a 3-1 victory over Saint Leo in a rare Wednesday matchup. The Eagles dominated the stat sheet, registering 23 more kills (58-35), 25 more assists (58-33), 10 more digs (59-49), 11 more blocks (15-4) and four more aces (9-5) than the Lions. ERAU also outhit SLU .301 to .127.

Embry-Riddle now has an 11-9 record against Saint Leo in the all-time series, including a 7-2 mark at home. The win was the Eagles' seventh in a row against the Lions and their seventh-straight at home dating back to 2017.

Saint Leo held the lead early on in the first with a 5-2 advantage. That increased to 10-6 before the Blue and Gold picked up blocks from Jaden McBride, Dana Gibbons, Fifi Harvey and Haley Manjack to score four consecutive points and tie the set. Soon after, the Eagles picked up five straight tallies from four kills and an ace to launch ahead 16-12 and eventually take the set 25-19.

However, the visitors responded in the second, scoring six unanswered points to charge out in front 7-3 partially due to four ERAU attacking errors. Though Embry-Riddle did get within two, the Eagles were never able to fully recover as the Lions took set two 25-17 with a .310 set hit percentage.

Wanting to send a message, ERAU turned the match into a block party in set three. Seven of the team's 15 blocks came in that set as the Blue and Gold smothered the Lions to an attacking clip of -.056. The set was tied at 5-5 when the home team slowly inched ahead before ending the set on a 12-2 spurt. Isabella Rujano came alive, registering 10 kills and accumulating six of the Eagles' last 12 points in the set. Back-to-back blocks from Manjack led to a convincing 25-11 set win.

After hitting .483 in the third, ERAU nearly matched that mark with a hit percentage of .462 in the fourth. Three kills and an ace quickly gave the Blue and Gold a 4-0 lead. Though Saint Leo did answer with a 5-1 streak to later take the lead at 7-6, Rujano once again led the charge with a trio of kills in a four-point stretch. Now up 10-7, the Eagles held on until the end, mixing in a 6-0 run, to win 25-15.

McBride earned her sixth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 11 digs to go with four blocks. Rujano was just one dig shy of also claiming a double-double, finishing with a team-high 18 kills, nine digs and three blocks. Gibbons posted a career-night, tallying personal-bests in points (14.5) and kills (10) alongside a team-high eight blocks. Manjack matched her season high in blocks with seven and also accumulated eight kills.

Harvey posted five kills and four blocks. Ashlyn Koerner set a season-high in assists for the second-straight match, earning 37 assists and nine digs while Lexie Hage picked up 12 assists. Embry-Riddle's 58 assists as a team on Wednesday was the third-most in a four-set match in the Sunshine State Conference this season.

Gabriela Pagan shined on the back row with 18 digs, and Ashley Lunt served up three aces.

The homestand concludes on Saturday with the Eagles hosting No. 18 Barry at 4 p.m.
