Volleyball Shocks No. 18 Barry for Gallop's 400th Win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Saturday's stunning sweep of No. 18 Barry was significant for Embry-Riddle volleyball in more ways than one. It was the first time the program defeated multiple ranked opponents in the same season. Even more important was the fact that it was Head Coach Joslynn Gallop's 400th career win at the helm of the program. Gallop is now the 36th active head coach at the NCAA II level to reach that milestone. Additionally, the Eagles continued to protect their home court to stay undefeated (8-0) inside the ICI Center in 2024.

Barry entered the match with the highest hit percentage (.310) and best opponent hit percentage (.118) in the Sunshine State Conference. However it was Embry-Riddle that had the advantage in almost every statistical category. The Eagles outhit the Buccaneers .228 to .204 and recorded 19 more kills (52-33), 18 more assists (50-32) and 12 more digs (53-41). Embry-Riddle's 52 kills and 50 assists were both tied for the second most in an SSC match this year.

Barry put up a brick wall at the net, posting 12 blocks in the first two sets. Four of the Buccaneers' first 10 points in set one were from rejections to give the visitors an 11-7 lead. Barry was up 21-19 when the Blue and Gold went on a run to claim six of the last seven points. Isabella Rujano took matters into her own hands, sending successful spikes to Barry's side of the court to capture ERAU's final three points of the set (25-22).

Set two was a dead heat up until the midway point. With Embry-Riddle slightly behind 15-14, the eagles went on a 7-1 spurt to leap ahead 21-16. The Buccaneers responded with a 7-1 streak of their own to regain the lead at 23-22. ERAU fended off two set points, and Rujano once again took charge with three straight kills to end the set in the Eagles' favor, 27-25.

Haley Manjack used a trio of kills to help turn a 7-6 deficit into an 11-7 lead in set three, and ERAU never looked back. A 5-0 run with three kills from Jaden McBride and two aces by Ashlyn Koerner allowed the Blue and Gold to cruise to the finish and win 25-20.

Rujano matched her single-game career high in kills despite only competing in three sets. The junior's 25 successful spikes were the most in the SSC in a three-set match this season and tied for the second most in any match in 2024. Rujano also posted a team-high 14 digs and three blocks. McBride also notched a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs.

For the third-consecutive game, Koerner set a single-match personal best with 40 assists. Ashley Lunt also set a career high, accumulating nine digs.

Embry-Riddle heads south for a rematch with RV Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Eagles upset the then No. T-24 Sharks 3-0 in Daytona Beach back on Oct. 1.
