LAKELAND, Fla. – The 2024 Sunshine State Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships concluded Friday, and the Embry-Riddle men's cross country team picked up third place with a score of 73. Florida Southern (27) took home first place and Tampa (60) was just ahead of the Eagles.

After ERAU were Palm Beach Atlantic (108), Florida Tech (137), Nova Southeastern (180), Lynn (181), Barry (224) and Saint Leo (285).

Nicholas Scarangelli was the best finisher for the Blue & Gold on the morning, taking home SSC Men's Cross Country Championship Team honors with his hard-run sixth-place finish in the 8K race (25:25.6), just three seconds off a top-five billing. Though it wasn't a PR, it was a season-best by more than 25 seconds, and marked his fourth top-10 finish in four races this season. Scarangelli set his PR mark of 24:59.4 at the 2023 UAH Invite, the same course on which the NCAA II Regionals will take place.

Rylan Malarchick wasn't far off a top-10 finish, placing 13th (25:45.4) for the Eagles, setting a new PR along the way. Since his fourth-place finish at the ERAU Classic on Sept. 21, Malarchick has steadily improved his times leading up to Friday's PR; he improved by 33 seconds in the GT Invite, and then blew by that mark by more than 20 at the SSC Championships.

Andrew Stowe (25:50.6) and Brandon Santangelo (25:50.8) both finished in the same top-20 pack, with Stowe taking 15th and Santangelo just behind in 16th. Stowe's time was the best he's run all season, after missing the Holloway Opener recovering from injury. He improved on his season-best time by four seconds. Santangelo also ran a season-best on Friday, en route to securing his fourth top-20 finish of the year. Like many running Eagles, Santagelo looks forward to the NCAA II Regionals, where he set his PR.

Simon Cole led the next pack of Eagles with a time of 26:09.3, good enough for 26th. In just his second race of the season, and first 8K of 2024, Cole was mere seconds off his PR (also set in Huntsville in 2023). Close behind Cole were Tristan McWilliam (26:21.8) and Ethan Stout (26:23.5). McWilliam raced past his season-best time by almost two minutes on Friday (28:05.7 at the Georgia Tech Invite more than two weeks ago). Stout was just off his season-best time (set at the GT Invite) and has seen an uptick since the season began.

Jacob D'Aleo (39th – 26:42.1), Lucca DiMario (46th – 27:07.6) and Tristan Hindorff (48th – 27:15.4) all placed in the top-50 of the 109-runner field. In his third race of the year, D'Aleo scored his best 8K time and was just seven seconds off his PR time. DiMario, who set his PR at the home ERAU Classic this season in September, was just off that time by seven seconds. Hindorff has finished in the top-half of the field in every race in his first year at ERAU, and set a new PR on Friday by three seconds, showing improvement every time out on the course.

In the next group, rounding out the Eagle runners, were Jack Brooks (54th – 27:31.5), Leo Borjon (59th – 27:46.3), Micah Blair (70th – 28:13.2), Jake Fritz (71st – 5:42.8), Carter Bergeron (73rd – 28:26.7), Joseph Koraya (76th – 28:33.0) and Gavin Weinheimer (79th – 28:41.7).

ERAU was missing the likes of Tayan Benson, Ryan Musil and Brendon Shea on Friday. With two weeks to prepare for the NCAA II Regionals on Nov. 9, head coach Mike Rosolino and his crew – most of whom have set PRs in Huntsville – will look to make a postseason mark before the NCAA II National Championships on Nov. 23.
