RV Volleyball Handles Mocs in Sweep

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Following an exhausting five-set match against No. 8 Tampa the night before, the Embry-Riddle volleyball team returned to the court on Saturday with a purpose and dismantled Florida Southern in straight sets with relative ease. It was the Eagles' fourth time sweeping the Mocs at home in the last five meetings inside the ICI Center.

Embry-Riddle outhit Florida Southern .319 to .122 and registered 16 more kills (43-27).

Isabella Rujano and Haley Manjack helped the Blue and Gold set the tone as both registered a block and a kill during ERAU's 5-0 run to start the first set. Up 7-4, the Eagles continued to increase their lead until it reached 16-7. Embry-Riddle claimed five of the last six points to win set one with ease, 25-15. Efficient offense was a major factor in the Eagles' success as ERAU didn't record an attacking error for a majority of the set until the score was 20-10.

Florida Southern possessed the momentum in the early stages of set two. Four Embry-Riddle attacking errors aided the Mocs to a 6-2 lead. However, Rujano closed the gap with a trio of kills to assist the Eagles in leveling the score at 9-9. The score remained tight until the home team burst for five straight points to turn a 19-17 deficit into a 22-19 lead. Embry-Riddle was able to hold on, winning 25-23 and going up two sets to none.

Back-to-back aces got FSC out to a 3-0 lead in set three, but Rujano tallied four kills in a 5-1 stretch for ERAU to send the Eagles ahead 7-6. After two straight points were scored by the Mocs, Embry-Riddle went on another run, this time tallying five unanswered points, three of which came from Rujano, to leap ahead 12-8. That lead only continued to grow as ERAU won 25-15 to secure the sweep.

Rujano earned 19 kills, eight digs and three aces throughout the match. Jaden McBride moved up into third on the program's all-time kills list with 13 successful spikes. That gave the senior 1,533 during her career to pass Susan Delahanty. Ashlyn Koerner posted 37 assists to go with six digs, Haley Manjack notched four blocks, and Gabriela Pagan led the team in digs with 13.

The Eagles hit the road next week to face Saint Leo on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
