Gibbons Joins 250 Block Club in Volleyball’s 3-1 Win Over Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Dana Gibbons joined elite company on Friday night by recording her 250th career block during Embry-Riddle volleyball's 3-1 victory against Saint Leo. Gibbins is just the 12th Eagle to reach the milestone and the first since Sam Lanning in 2021. However, the junior didn't stop there as Gibbons tallied seven blocks in the match to move into 11th on the program's all-time list with 256.

As a team, the Eagles dismantled the Lions offensively. ERAU held SLU to an attacking percentage of .086, which was the lowest hit percentage in a match by an opposing Sunshine State Conference team this season.

Embry-Riddle improved to 12-9 against Saint Leo in the all-time series. It was the Eagles' eighth-straight win over the Lions.

The Eagles raced out to a 5-1 lead in set one with three kills from Haley Manjack. Embry-Riddle led from that point on, using a 5-0 run to win set one 25-18. Manjack and Jaden McBride provided the firepower as the two combined for 14 kills and a .571 hit percentage.

Both sides went back and forth trading blows in set two as the score sat even at 4-4. At that point, the Lions scored three straight and possessed the lead for the next few rallies. With ERAU behind 10-7, the Blue and Gold compiled a huge 6-0 streak. The run included a block by Dana Gibbons, which was the junior's 250th block of her career.

Embry-Riddle led 13-10, and that lead remained until SLU rattled off five consecutive scores to jump ahead 21-18. McBride helped her squad tie the score at 21-21 with a pair of kills, but the Lions grabbed four of the last five points to take set two 25-22.

ERAU responded in the third, starting the set ahead 7-3 on four Saint Leo miscues. A couple of 4-0 spurts, both of which started with Isabella Rujano kills, vaulted the visitors up 15-7. Eventually, the Eagles won the set 25-13. The Blue and Gold defense showed out, holding Saint Leo to an attack percentage in the red at -.062.

From start to finish, the Eagles led throughout set four. The set began with a 3-0 run by ERAU, and the Eagles steadily increased their lead into the double digits, winning 25-15 and taking the match.

McBride ended the match with team-highs in both kills (19) and digs (14). She moved up into second on the program's all-time kills list with 1,552 and trails the current record holder Abby Hall (1,715) by just 163. Rujano also picked up a double-double from 12 kills and 11 digs. Ashlyn Koerner tallied 40 assists and a personal-best four blocks. Gabriela Pagan ended with 11 digs.

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow at Eckerd with a 4 p.m. start.
