BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team's undefeated streak to start the season was snapped on Saturday, with the Eagles (3-1, 2-1 SSC) suffering a close 4-3 loss to No. 3 Lynn (5-0, 1-0 SSC) in the Eagles' second Sunshine State Conference match of the season.
Lynn took the doubles points, as Zofia Podbiol and Kristin Youness defeated Ixtaso Blanco and Carlo Cabrero Del Hierro 6-4 in the No. 1 spot, while the No. 2 doubles match-up was won 6-2 by Salma Djoubri and Greta Schieroni over Laura Cuesta Bret and Maja Issler. Embry-Riddle's Kaylee Kirivong and Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo won at No. 3 doubles, defeating Jade Marie and Dolores Molina 6-3.
Lynn took the No. 1 singles match, with Djouri defeating Blanco 6-1, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, to Issler won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 over Schieroni, while Younes won at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2, 7-5) against Cuesta Bret. The Eagles' second singles point came at No. 4 where Cabero del Hierro bounced back to top Marie 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Wire Hadipoernomo won at No. 5 singles, defeating Podviol 6-3, 6-2, and the No. 6 slot was won by Lynn's Molina who downed Alessia Tripaldelli by the same score.
The Eagles are back on the road again on Wednesday, with a trip to Lakeland to face off against Florida Southern at 3 p.m.
