Women’s Tennis Improves to 5-1 Following 7-0 defeat of Michigan Tech

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team continued its stellar start, moving to 5-1 (3-1 Sunshine State Conference) on the season with a 7-0 defeat of the Michigan Tech Huskies (2-5).

The Eagles got off to a winning start in the doubles, winning all three matches. First to win was the No. 3 doubles tandem of Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and Kaylee Kirivong, winning 6-1 against Caoimhe McDonnell and Emily Rose. The No. 1 spot saw the next win, as Ixtaso Blanco and Carla Cabero del Hierro defeated Bells Bigari and Katerina Khardina 6-1, whichsecured the doubles point for the Eagles. ERAU wrapped up the doubles with a win in the No. 2 match, as Maja Issler and Laura Cuesta Bret won against Grace Eland and Emily Cojocaru by a score of 6-3.

Issler started off the winning in the singles, defeating Bigari 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. After this, Cabero del Hierro made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Emily Rose in the No. 4 singles.

Wira Hadipoernomo clinched it for the Eagles, as she won her No. 5 matchup 6-1, 6-2 against Chiara Heinz. The score improved to 5-0 for the Eagles shortly thereafter when Cuesta Bret won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 3 slot against Cojocaru.

Blanco took the No. 1 singles match, winning 6-3, 6-3 against Grace Eland. Finally, Alessia Tripaldelli completed the emphatic win, defeating Marina Fernandez 6-0, 

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, as they'll face Tiffin at 9:30 a.m.
