LAKELAND, Fla. – Two eagles and 12 birdies helped propel Tiago Barni to his first collegiate top-5 showing at the Matlock Collegiate Classic on Tuesday as Embry-Riddle men's golf ended the tournament in 12th with 911 (303-298-310) strokes. Fifteen programs completed three rounds at the par-72, 7,151-yard Lone Palm Golf Club, and the field included four top-25 teams in No. 10 West Florida, No. 11 Florida Southern, No. 13 Saint Leo, and No. 24 Barton.

As a team, Embry-Riddle recorded four eagles, the second most by any team, and were thirteen under par on par-5s.

For the second time in the event, Barni (71-73-72) eagled the par-5, 512-yard hole No. 5 and then went two under par on his final four holes to close with an even 72. His 216 strokes placed him in a tie for fourth, just three shots off the individual winner.

Most of Barni's success could be attributed to his performance on par-5s as the junior led all 78 competitors in stroke average (4.08) on such holes, which equaled a score of 11 under par. Additionally, Barni was one of only four players to notch multiple eagles, and his 12 birdies were tied for the third most in the field.

Brandon Godfrey (76-73-80) registered a team-high 31 pars over the course of three rounds. He tallied 229 total strokes.

Jacob Salazar was among the best in the competition on par-3 holes, averaging 3.08 strokes, which ranked tied for sixth. An eagle and back-to-back birdies aided the junior to a 77 on Tuesday and a 231 overall score.

Edoardo Scialanga (81-73-81=235) and Michael Faringer (81-79-86=246) also competed for the Eagles.

Host Florida Southern (285-282-303=870) was the top team by five strokes with Nova Southeastern (291-288-296=875) and Lynn (292-281-304=877) finishing in second and third.

The Sharks' Michael Hay topped all individuals with 213 (70-72-71) strokes.

Embry-Riddle is back in action on Feb. 19-20 at the Saint Leo Invitational.
