DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The newly-minted 16th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team earned its third shutout of the season courtesy of a 7-0 win over Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras at the Crotty Tennis Complex on Wednesday. The win moved the Eagles to 8-2 on the year, while UPRRP, who played the first match in program history on Wednesday, is 0-1.
The first-time pairing of
Luke Paschal and
Pranav Kumar notched a 6-1 win against Andres Del Valle Juan and Jose Desiderio at No. 2 doubles. The 34th-ranked duo of
Joshua Nuyts and
Michele Iftimie bested Diego Rodriguez and Federico Donato 6-3 on court one to give the Eagles the doubles point.
Singles play featured five straight-set wins for the Blue and Gold.
Nicklas Gesslein earned his first dual match win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Javier Aponte at the fifth spot. Wednesday's play also featured first-time dual match wins for Paschal, who downed Del Valle Juan 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, and Kumar, who won 6-0, 6-1 against Desiderio at the fourth spot. No. 47
Safar Rasulov and
Fernando Alonso notched shutouts at the top two positions against Donato and Rodriguez, respectively to close out the scoring.
