DAYTONA BEACH. Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team celebrated its new No. 25 ranking the latest ITA/NCAA II poll with a win over Tiffin, Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. Playing in an abbreviated match, the Eagles got the better of the singles-only match-up, winning 4-2 to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Laura Cuesta Bret was the first to wrap up a win for the Eagles with her 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Emily Barrett at No. 3 singles.
Carla Cabero del Hierro was the next off the court after her 6-2, 7-5 win over Jemimah Choi on court four.
The Dragons got their first point when Carina Avram topped
Alessia Tripaldelli 6-3, 6-4 at the sixth spot, but the Eagles extended their lead to 3-1 when
Maja Issler rebounded from a first-set setback to down Anaelle Lepinay 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the second spot.
Tiffin managed to pick up another point at No. 1 singles, but playing at the No. 5 spot,
Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo outlasted Jessica Peace 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-5 in a 2:35 match to score the clincher.
The Eagles' next match will be at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday against No. 14 Wingate at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
