DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 16th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched its second Sunshine State Conference win of the season on Thursday, downing Lynn 5-2 at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are now 10-2 on the year and 2-1 in the SSC, while Lynn falls to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Embry-Riddle and Lynn each notched a win in the first two doubles matches to reach completion with the Fighting Knights' Aymen and Alimoussa and Gabriele Felline holding off
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo and
Safar Rasulov 7-5 and the Eagles'
Joshua Nuyts and
Michele Iftimie coming out on the winning end of a 7-6 (9-7) battle against Yaron Guberman and Haktan Garayev at the top spot. The match on court two was deadlocked until the 25th-ranked ERAU tandem of
Fernando Alonso and
Caelan Potts registered a hold and a break late in the match against No. 23 Gianmarco Amatiste and Jonathan Olive-Blanco to clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 victory.
For the second match in a row, Diaz Rodrigo was the first man to win a point for the Blue and Gold in singles as he defeated Milan Zivkovic 6-1, 6-0 in 57 minutes to put the Eagles up 2-0. No. 34 Nuyts surrendered just three games to Alimoussa, downing the Fighting Knights second-flight player 6-1, 6-2 and 39th-ranked Rasulov upended No. 21 Felline 6-1, 6-3 to score the clincher on court one.
No. 60 Alonso followed with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Olive-Blanco on court four to close out the Eagles' scoring.
The Eagles' next is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday in Georgia against Valdosta State.
