No. 12 Women’s Tennis Scores Third Consecutive Victory in 4-2 Win Against Academy of Art

DAYTONA BEACH. Fla. – The No. 12 Embry-Riddle women's tennis team (11-4) won their third consecutive victory, coming back from an early deficit to defeat the Academy of Art Urban Knights (7-4) 4-2.

The Eagles dropped the doubles point despite an early lead. While the No. 21-ranked tandem of Itxaso Blanco and Laura Cuesta Bret scored a 6-2 victory over the No. 25-ranked duo Amelija Supulniece and Erica Hellbe in the No. 1 spot, a 6-3 win from Paulina Alvarez and Viktoria Leth over Kaylee Kirivong and Maja Issler in the No. 3 matchup put the doubles point in the balance of the No. 2 doubles. Jessica Plazas and Estelle Najean won 6-2 there against Carla Cabero del Hierro and Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo, making it 1-0 Knights heading into the Singles.

Alessia Tripaldelli got ERAU started off on the right note in the singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 against Georgiana Parr in the No. 6 matchup to tie it up at 1-1. The Eagles then took a 2-1 lead following the No. 3 singles as Cuesta Bret won 6-0, 6-2 against Najean.

Cabero del Hierro extended the lead to 3-1 as she defeated Leth 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 slot. Issler fell 2-6, 0-6 to Plazas in the No. 2 matchup, making it 3-2 Eagles.

Wira Hadipoernomo clinched it with her victory in the No. 5 singles, as her defeat of Alvarez made the score 4-2.

The Eagles are back in action this weekend, as they head west to take on the University of Tampa at noon Saturday.
