DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 16th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team suffered its second loss of the season on Tuesday, falling to No. 15 Wingate 4-2 at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The loss puts the Eagles at 4-2 on the year, while Wingate moves to 4-4.
The Bulldogs took control of the match early, securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The ERAU tandem of
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo and
Safar Rasulov registered the first win of the day by topping Carlo Roselini and Florian Walcher 6-3 at the third doubles spot. Luka Brown and Hugo Nossler held off
Michele Iftimie and
Joshua Nuyts at No. 1 and Gabriel Constantino 6-4 and Edis Nokic topped
Caelan Potts and Fernando Alsonso 6-2 at No. 2 to give Wingate a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
The Bulldogs picked up their next two points with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles to go up 3-0.
The Eagles got two points back when Diaz Rodrigo downed Brown 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 and Rasulov rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 upset of No. 25 Constantino at No. 1. However, No. 32 Walcher secured the win for the Bulldogs with a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 31 Alonso at the third spot.
The Eagles are back in action at noon on Saturday when they host Mississippi College at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
