DAYTONA BEACH. Fla. – The No. 23 Embry-Riddle women's tennis team started off their weekend slate on the right note, as the Eagles (7-2) defeated the No. 32 Mississippi College Choctaw's (4-4) .
Despite falling behind early in the doubles, ERAU recovered. In the No. 2 matchup, MC's Gabrielle Geolier and Ana Julissa De Mata Rodriguez won 6-3 against
Maja Issler and
Carla Cabero del Hierro. Embry-Riddle battled back in the No. 1 slot, with
Itxaso Blanco and
Laura Cuesta Bret taking a 6-4 victory over Elyangelica Alas and Fernando Cota. With it all up for grabs in the No. 3 matchup, the tandem of
Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and
Kaylee Kirivong scored a hard-fought 7-5 victory over Elena Roberts and Maria Rodriguez to take the doubles point.
In the singles, Blanco got the Eagles started with another win, with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Alas in the No. 1 spot. After that, Cabero del Hierro made it 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Geolier in the No. 4 matchup. The Eagles clinched victory in the No. 3 slot, as Cuesta Bret won 7-5, 6-3 against Cota, giving them a 4-0 win.
The Eagles are back in action tomorrow, as they'll face Indiana (Pa.) at 4 p.m.
