No. 8 Women's Tennis Defeats Eckerd 6-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — No. 8 Embry-Riddle Women's Tennis (14-5, 6-3 Sunshine State Conference) made a successful trip to Florida's West Coast, as they defeated the Eckerd Tritons (9-11, 0-8 SSC) by a score of 6-1.

This win keeps Embry-Riddle's undefeated record against Eckerd intact, as the Eagles are 10-0 against the Tritons dating back to a 9-0 away win on March 13, 2000. In that timespan, ERAU leads Eckerd by a combined score of 77-2.

The Eagles got off to a great start in the doubles, winning the point as all three tandems won.

The No. 9-ranked doubles pairing of Itxaso Blanco and Laura Cuesta Bret backed up their now top-10 status, scoring a 6-1 win at the No. 1 doubles over Ericka Chavarria and Cate Cole. The Eagles then quickly clinched at the No. 2 matchup, as Carla Cabero del Hierro and Maja Issler also won 6-1, defeating Kylie Misdorp and Maya Soligo. The No. 3 spot was also won by ERAU, with Kaylee Kirivong and Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo winning 6-3 against Maialen Idiakez and Olivia Lindestaf.

The No. 66-ranked Cuesta Bret extended the ERAU lead to 2-0 to start the singles, as she won 6-0, 6-0 over Julia Triska at the No.3 slot to make it 2-0. No. 33-ranked Blanco then scored a 6-3, 7-5 win against Misdorp in the No.1 singles to put the Eagles up 3-0.

Cabero del Hierro clinched victory for the Eagles, as her 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Soligo in the No. 4 matchup make the score 4-0. Wira Hadipoernomo tacked on in the No. 5 spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Idiakez.

The Tritons got one back at the No.2 singles matchup, where Lindestaf came from behind to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 against No. 66 Issler. Embry-Riddle then ended their win on a high note, as Alessia Tripaldelli defeated Cole 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot for a final score of 6-1.

The Eagles are back at home for senior day this week, as ERAU will honor Blanco and Issler as they host Southeastern at the Crotty Tennis Complex on Thursday, April 13. at 3:30 p.m.
