LAKELAND, Fla. –The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team closed out play in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with a loss to Rollins (19-6) at the Beerman Tennis Center on Sunday. The 13th-ranked Eagles fell to fifth-ranked Tars 4-1 in the third-place match, pushing Embry-Riddle's record to 15-7 overall.
The Tars took an early lead as wins at the second and third doubles positions gave Rollins a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Nico de Giacomo picked up Rollins' second point of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win against
Michele Iftimie at No. 3 singles.
Joshua Nuyts dropped a hard-fought first set against Luke Quaynor and Quaynor went on to win the No. 2 singles match 7-5, 6-2 to increase the Tar lead to 3-0.
Playing on court six,
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo bested Charlie Putrino 6-4, 6-1 to get a point back for the Eagles, but Guillermo Castaneda held off
Caelan Potts 6-3, 7-5 to clinch the win.
The 2024 NCAA II national tournament bracket will be announced on May 6, at which time the Eagles will learn if their season will continue.
