ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's golf team finds itself locked in a battle for a spot on the podium at the Jay Jennison Cup as the Eagles shot a 600 on day one to sit in a three-way tie for fifth with RV Newberry and Mount Olive, just two strokes away from third. The 10-team field consists of one ranked program (No. 21 Wingate) and four receiving votes (Flagler, Lenoir Rhyne, Newberry and Rollins) in the most recent coaches' poll. Play is being held at the par-72, 6,997-yard course at The Palencia Club.

Ryan Gear was on fire to start round one after going four under in his first eight holes to build a two-stroke lead and help Embry-Riddle to the top of the leaderboard by four shots. Gear ended the round with a season-best 72 and followed with a 74 in round two to sit tied for 10th with 146 strokes.

Edoardo Scialanga (73-74) is eyeing his fourth-straight top-10, residing one stroke outside (147) in a tie for 13th. After bogeying the opening hole in the first round, the sophomore locked in to birdie back-to-back par-4s and then par the next nine holes.

Joon Kim (79-74=153) saw a resurgence in the second round, improving his score by five. Kim tied for the team high in birdies on the day with seven.

Tiago Barni (80-76=156) also found more success his second time around the course. The Windermere, Florida product was productive on par-4 holes as five of his seven birdies occurred on such holes.

Ian Ball (78-79=157) tied for the most pars on the team with 24 over 36 holes.

Wingate (581) has a sizable 10-stroke lead over Rollins (591) with Lenoir Rhyne (599) and Eckerd (599) tied for third.

Wingate's Brandon Skidmore and Lenoir Rhyne's Holt Allison are tied for the individual lead at four under par (140).

The tournament concludes tomorrow with the third and final round at 8 a.m. The Eagles will tee off on holes 10 through 13.
