FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - It's been a tough weekend for Embry-Riddle Volleyball as the Eagles fell 3-1 to Nova Southeastern on Saturday at the Rick Case Arena. The Sharks entered as one of the best blocking teams in the Sunshine State Conference (2.4 per set), and ERAU had trouble avoiding NSU's blockers as the Sharks rejected 14 attacks over four sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set

  • The Eagles struggled to get past NSU's front row as the Sharks earned four of their first 14 points from blocks
  • A 4-0 run by the home side increased the Eagles' deficit to nine (24-15)
  • NSU soon after took the set 25-18 with a .444 hit percentage
Second Set
  • Embry-Riddle was on the offensive with an opening 5-2 run with kills from a trio of Eagles
  • It was the Isabella Rujano and Dakota Zieman show as the two hitters registered four kills each to put Embry-Riddle ahead 12-9
  • At that point, Nova Southeastern went on a 5-1 run to steal the lead, 14-13
  • Zieman produced back-to-back kills to cap off a 4-0 spurt to give ERAU a three-point lead at 19-16
  • With a slim one-point lead, Embry-Riddle stepped on the gas to close out the set with four-straight tallies to win 25-20
Third Set
  • With Embry-Riddle trailing 6-5, NSU utilized a 6-1 streak to double up the Eagles, 12-6
  • The deficit continued to grow until it reached a peak of 11 (20-9) following five points in a row from Nova Southeastern due to four ERAU miscues
  • Zieman used a trio of successful spikes to chip away at the deficit (21-14)
  • Ultimately, the Sharks hung on to win 25-15
Fourth Set
  • Nova Southeastern set the tone with an 8-2 advantage to force an early timeout by the Blue and Gold
  • Embry-Riddle regrouped by taking five of the next six points from two kills and three attacking errors by the Sharks to get within two (9-7)
  • However, NSU rattled off its own five-point surge to lead by seven (14-7) and later took the set 25-16
