Rujano Powers Volleyball to 3-1 Win Over Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A 23-kill, 16-dig, and three-block performance by Isabella Rujano helped Embry-Riddle Volleyball end a three-game skid by downing Eckerd in four sets at the McArthur Center on Tuesday. The Eagles were in top form offensively as the Blue and Gold registered a .333 team hit percentage. Of Embry-Riddle's 94 points in the match, 61 came from kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • Embry-Riddle had its way offensively with Eckerd as the Eagles hit .500 in the set
  • Twenty of the Blue and Gold's 25 points came from kills
  • ERAU never trailed in the set, leading by as many as ten points on multiple occasions
  • The Eagles produced a trio of 4-0 runs in the set to eventually win 25-17
Second Set
  • Speaking of 4-0 runs, Embry-Riddle used one at the beginning of set two to take an early lead
  • A 5-1 streak with consecutive solo blocks from Haley Manjack and Rujano pushed the lead to seven (11-4)
  • It was another dominant set that the Eagles never trailed in, finishing with a 25-19 score
Third Set
  • Embry-Riddle trailed for the first time all night after an attack failed to clear the net on the opening rally
  • The Eagles swiftly snatched the lead by taking the next two rallies 
  • With ERAU ahead 8-7, Eckerd collected the next four tallies to lead 11-8
  • The visitors couldn't get any closer than two points for the remainder of the set as the Tritons hung on to win 25-19
Fourth Set
  • Embry-Riddle responded with dominance as the Eagles charged out to a 9-3 advantage with four kills and a block from Rujano
  • The Tritons were unable to get any closer than three points
  • ERAU utilized a 6-1 run with two kills and a block from Rujano to cruise ahead 20-12 and eventually win 25-16

INSIDE THE STATS
  • Embry-Riddle was more efficient than Eckerd with a vastly higher hit percentage, .333-.257
  • The Eagles also led in kills (61-52), aces (9-4), digs (63-58), and blocks (8-5)
  • Rujano earned her second-straight double-double and fourth in the last seven games with 23 kills and 16 digs, both team highs
  • Dakota Zieman used 18 kills and 12 digs to also pick up a double-double, her sixth of the season
  • Ashlyn Koerner reached 50+ assists for the fourth time this year and the first time in a four-set match
  • Her 52 assists were the most by an SSC student-athlete in a four-set match this season
  • Manjack produced a season-high 13.5 points

PROGRAM RECORD BOOK
  • Manjack reached 250 career blocks with six on the night to become just the 13th member of the program's 250 Block Club
    • That was also a single-game season high for the junior
