No. 22 Women’s Soccer and Florida Southern End Level at 1-1

LAKELAND, Fla. – No. 22 Embry-Riddle Women's Soccer was unable to find a second goal against Florida Southern on Wednesday night and was forced to come back home with just a point. The Eagles struggled in the opening stages, with the Moccasins taking advantage and scoring off of a cross in the 4th minute. However, the Eagles would grow into the game, only giving up one shot in the entire second half, and having Lauryn Mateo score her sixth goal of the season to draw even at 1-1 with just under 30 minutes to play.

RECORDS
#22 Embry-Riddle - 6-0-8 (4-0-5)
Florida Southern -  7-2-5 (3-2-4)

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • The all-time series between the Eagles and Moccasins now stands at 7-6-5.
  • Embry-Riddle is 2-4-3 overall when playing Florida Southern on the road.
  • Neither team has won back-to-back meetings in this series, since ERAU did so in 2019 and 2021.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Florida Southern got off to a fantastic start, seeing their first shot of the game find the back of the net. After driving down the right wing, a cross was perfectly weighted for Isabella Payne to head in and score her third goal of the season.
  • ERAU recorded the next four shots after the FSC goal, but were only able to direct one of those on target, with Anna Marisa Lara forcing a save from Carly Brodsky.
  • In the 33rd minute, the Mocs nearly doubled their lead, watching Aliya Roberts send her shot off the bottom of the post and her follow-up effort saved by Stella Roane.
  • The second half performance was much better from the Eagles, outshooting the Mocs 6-1 in the half. ERAU also earned six corner kicks throughout the match, while FSC never had a corner kick tonight.
  • After three corner kicks in a two minute span, Berglind Thrastardottir eventually found Lauryn Mateo on her delivery, with Mateo scoring her team-high sixth goal of the season.
  • Both teams sent players forward as the game wore on, in desperate search of a win at this stage of the season, but no other goals came, and each team ends the night with just a point.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Ida Peterson earned her first career start for the Eagles.
  • Julia Hyppel played a career high 63 minutes, while Ria Vlachos also recorded a career high with 62 minutes.
  • Roane remains undefeated in her ERAU career, with a 7-0-8 record, and is the only player to play every minute of this season.
  • Embry-Riddle is currently tied for 2nd place in the SSC standings. They have one conference game left to play, against SSC regular season champions, Nova Southeastern, on November 5th.
  • The Eagles are guaranteed a top four spot in the conference standings, meaning they will host the first round of the SSC tournament on Monday, November 10. With a win versus NSU, Embry-Riddle would earn 2nd place. If the Eagles fail to win, they could end up as low as 4th place.
