DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – RV Embry-Riddle Women's Soccer bowed out of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament on Monday night, falling 2-0 to Florida Southern. In their second match against the Mocs in as many weeks, the Eagles were unable to find the back of the net. Isabella Payne made the difference in the match, as she recorded a goal and an assist in the second half, while also placing three shots on goal.

RECORDS
RV Embry-Riddle - 6-2-9 (4-1-5)
Florida Southern -  9-2-6 (3-2-5)

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • The all-time series between the Eagles and Moccasins is now even at 7-7-5.
  • Embry-Riddle has played Florida Southern in the postseason, three of the last four years, with the Mocs getting their first postseason win tonight.
  • ERAU and FSC have played seven times since 2022, with the Eagles going 2-2-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Moccasins got off to a great early start, and never looked back. Stella Roane was forced into her first save within the opening minutes after a shot from Jasmin Adames.
  • Lauryn Mateo recorded the Eagles' first shot in the 7th minute, but saw her effort go narrowly wide of the net.
  • Embry-Riddle totaled three shots in the first half, but were unable to put a shot on target.
  • Florida Southern had four total shots in the first 45 minutes, but did not test Roane again in the half after her early save.
  • However, the Mocs opened the scoring just three minutes after halftime. A giveaway by the Eagles backline, allowed Payne and Aliya Roberts to put together a nice move down the left wing, finished off with Roberts curling her shot in to the back of the net.
  • The Blue and Gold had a chance for the equalizer in the 62nd minute after Mateo won a header off of a corner kick, but she was denied by the crossbar.
  • ERAU was made to pay just a few minutes later, when Payne doubled Florida Southern's lead. After a scramble in front of goal, including a shot coming off the post, Payne bundled the ball over the line to make it 2-0.
  • Off the bench, Julia Hyppel looked to provide a late spark for the Eagles. She recorded a pair of shots in the final ten minutes of the game, forcing a save from Carly Brodsky with nine minutes to go, and then putting a great chance in the 84th minute just wide.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Eight of the Eagles' eleven starters played all 90 minutes this evening.
  • Mateo, the team leader in shots, once again led ERAU with three total shots this evening.
  • Stella Roane is the only Embry-Riddle player to be on the pitch for every minute this season, totaling 64 saves this season, including five saves tonight.
