Volleyball Edged By RV Palm Beach Atlantic in Five Sets

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Embry-Riddle Volleyball battled (RV) Palm Beach Atlantic in a nail-biter on Saturday. The Eagles' final match inside the ICI Center during 2025 ended in a narrow five-set loss to the Sailfish.

Despite this, Embry-Riddle was dialed in from the service line as the Eagles produced eight aces and only four service errors compared to 15 serving miscues by the opposition.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • Three Sailfish miscues had the Eagles in front 4-1
  • After three-straight points by PBA, Embry-Riddle claimed five-unanswered tallies to go up 9-4 and force an early Palm Beach Atlantic timeout
  • The onslaught continued as the Blue and Gold went on a 9-3 run out of the break with three kills and an ace from Dakota Zieman (18-7, ERAU)
  • Palm Beach Atlantic responded with a 6-1 streak to make it a six-point match (19-13)
  • Embry-Riddle eventually claimed the first set, 25-17
  • The Eagles held the Sailfish to a .000 hit percentage in the set
Second Set
  • The momentum carried over into the second set as four Eagles registered kills to aid the team to an 8-2 lead
  • PBA regrouped with a 7-4 scoring advantage after the timeout to trim ERAU's lead to three (12-9)
  • Later on, the Sailfish went on an 8-1 spurt to go up 18-15
  • Three PBA miscues and kills from Ruby Owen and Isabella Rujano helped the Blue and Gold reclaim the lead, 21-20
  • However, the visitors took five of the last six rallies to take set two, 25-22
Third Set
  • The third set was more of the same as Embry-Riddle took command early once again with four attacking errors from the Sailfish to go ahead 6-1
  • A 6-1 run later in the set allowed the Eagles to double up PBA, 14-7, when the Sailfish claimed four-straight tallies
  • From there, it was all ERAU as Embry-Riddle ended the set on a 6-2 run to win 25-16
Fourth Set
  • Set four was closely contested featuring nine ties and five lead changes
  • Though PBA did lead 15-12, Embry-Riddle used a pair of kills from Owen to go on a 5-1 run to gain a 17-16 advantage
  • Later up 19-17, Palm Beach Atlantic stole the lead (21-19) from a trio of attacking errors by the Blue and Gold 
  • The Sailfish sent the match to the fifth set with a 25-21 set win
Fifth Set
  • Back-to-back blocks by Owen and Haley Manjack had the Eagles out in front 5-4
  • However, a 5-1 streak had Palm Beach Atlantic up 13-9
  • A PBA serving error and a powerful kill from Zieman brought the Blue and Gold back into the set, down just 13-11
  • Unfortunately, PBA claimed the last two points and the set, 15-11

INSIDE THE STATS
  • Rujano notched another double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs, her eighth of the season
  • Ashlyn Koerner also posted her 12th double-double of the year with 28 assists and 16 digs
  • Gabriela Pagan was racking up digs with 22 through the first three sets
  • Additionally, Lexie Hage picked up her first-career double-double with 15 assists and a career-high 10 digs
  • Manjack was error-free on the attack with eight kills in 19 attempts
  • Owen's four blocks were a season high
