Hrbek’s 11 Blocks Propel Volleyball Over Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. - Kailey Hrbek produced one of the best blocking performances Embry-Riddle Volleyball has ever witnessed. The junior rejected 11 Florida Southern attacks to help the Eagles down the Mocs in four sets. It tied for the fifth-most blocks in a match in program history and the most since 2022. Additionally, it was the most in a four-set match by a Sunshine State Conference student-athlete in 2025 and tied for the eighth-most in conference history.

Hrbek's performance contributed to a season-high 16 team blocks as Embry-Riddle held Florida Southern to a .038 hit percentage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • Serving was the Eagles' strength as Embry-Riddle produced five aces in the set, three from Ashlyn Koerner
  • One of those aces came by Gabriela Pagan, who helped the Eagles out to a 4-1 lead
  • Four unanswered points by Florida Southern had the Mocs in front 6-5 and later 9-6
  • The gap was narrowed to 13-12 when ERAU surged ahead with seven-consecutive points that included a trio of aces from Koerner
  • The lead held up as the Eagles won 25-19
Second Set
  • A 5-1 streak had the Blue and Gold in front 10-6
  • Later on, a pair of blocks by Hrbek and Isabella Rujano aided the Eagles on another 5-1 run to lead 16-9
  • Four-straight points brought Embry-Riddle to a 24-14 set point, and Dakota Zieman sealed it with a kill to win 25-17
  • The serve helped the Eagles take set one, but the blocking was key in set two as the Blue and Gold rejected five FSC attacks, all of which came during the Eagles' last 12 points
Third Set
  • A couple of aces from Pagan helped ERAU claim five-straight rallies (5-2)
  • However, a 4-0 run from FSC gave the lead to the home side at 9-8
  • The Mocs produced two more 4-0 spurts to eventually take the set 25-21
Fourth Set
  • Hrbek did a majority of her damage in the fourth as the Omaha, Nebraska product picked up a block in each of the Eagles' first four points
  • With Embry-Riddle up 9-7, the Eagles added five-consecutive points to double up the Mocs 14-7
  • Hrbek added her fifth and sixth blocks of the set during a 5-1 streak to push the lead to double digits (22-12)
  • FSC tried to rally with a late 5-0 spurt to make it 24-21, but like in the second set, Zieman earned the win with a kill
